A Playa Public Service Announcement: Where’s the Orgy?

It’s a well known fact that at Burning Man, “I’m here because I love art” is a synonym for “you look amazing naked.”

In fact, according to a recent survey, 50% of people attend Burning Man “for all the cock,” and 2/3rds of the remaining 50% are lying.

But getting to Burning Man is only half the battle. Once you’re here, how do you find an orgy?

Fortunately that’s today’s playa tip!

About the author: Caveat Magister

Caveat grew up wanting to be a Russian novelist, but the closest he ever came was getting personally insulted by the first democratically elected president of Poland. Now the volunteer coordinator for Burning Man's Media Team (itself a volunteer position), Caveat has been messing with Burners for the last five years, and has a hard time believing some of the stuff they've let him get away with. He is a publisher at Omnibucket.com, served as editor of Chicken John’s philosophical autobiography “The Book of the Is,” and archives his publications and personal blogs at www.TheWachsGallery.com.

  • My boyfriend and I ran a test on 3 different orgy camps last year. We went in separately and I was allowed in every time – welcomed enthusiastically. He was treated like a pervert and thrown out. We wanted to try all of the orgy camps, but time didn’t allow. They say ‘couples only’ but as a women, I get instant access. That is sexism.

  • Cindy, the sooner you realise that vaginas are exponentially more fun in a room full of penises, the happier you and your boyfriend will be while you’re having sex with other people.

  • Orgy domes can be quite smelly in the day. I recommend going at night. I also recommend that you newbs at least mime some sort of sexual activity instead of just staring doe-eyed and slack-jawed at those of us who have some serious fucking to do. That, or make yourself useful and fetch us some water and a fresh towel.

    Thanks for the post, Caveat!

  • cindy is completely right but not just for orgies but BM in general , i am a very likable person who went to BM with many experienced friends i traveled in costume and with drums i am a great north african and middle-eastern percussionist (however i found if i traveled round the burn with girls it made all the difference single guys are generally not welcome at BM

  • Many of the Sparkle Ponies you see out there are actually escorts. I’ve met a few. They’re not actually paid cash, but they’re given a free ride to BM without having to do anything as long as they stick to their Johns at night. Sex usually isn’t included, but one lady told me she had to let her John watch her take showers.

This is the result of the anti-single male sentiment that has gripped the playa since about 2005.

  • Cindy, you are missing the bigger picture here. As someone who is very into the swinger community and enjoys the orgy domes at burning man. The difficult thing in an orgy is how to create a safe, comfortable and respectful atmosphere where peopke are immediately accountable for their actions.

When a man is there with a partner, his actions are immediately and naturally held accountable by the presence of his partner. Without the rule, the orgy dome would be FILLED with drunk, high and tripping men. Some might be respectful and aware of social ques and orgy/swinging etiquette. But many would not. The situation you desire would require the presence of bouncers to protect the possibility if dangerous or innapropriate behavior. I certainly wouldn’t want to have an intimate situation with my partner surrounded and constantly harassed by horny men

Without a doubt, women are also capable of being creepy, but they are much less capable of rape. That is not sexism, that is the reality

  • @Burner guy

Interesting. The bigger picture is that accountability prevents rape, not a lack of morality. That’s different that what I’ve read in all the literature. By excluding single males (because they are all potential rapists), the paired-up males (who are also all potential rapists) will not rape because they don’t want to make the girl they’re with upset.

Effectively, the rape danger at Burning Man is so high that it’s a constant and immediate threat. The single male must be assumed to be a rapist because he is not with a woman to hold him accountable against raping.

It doesn’t sound like Burning Man is a very nice place.

  • Cindy, it’s unfair, yes. Rape at BM is too real. But think of it this way (and I’m sorry to boil it down to this)… there are millions of sperm to a single egg. In sex communities there are many, many more men to women. This is a matter of numbers, not opinion. Swingers clubs limit the number of single men because they want women to feel safe not preyed upon (the number of men would clearly outnumber the number of women if these limits were not set).

While there are a great deal of men who are the very embodiment of respect and integrity, it really is about making women feel safe. Women happen to be the main draw at sex/swingers clubs. Without them swingers clubs and orgy domes would be probably be bath houses by default. When I go to a swingers club I don’t want to be approached by dozens of single men. I feel safe in the presence of couples and women not a swarm of single horny men. Even though women are capable of rape, their body mass matches mine, and I don’t feel threatened by them. Sexist? Yes, but that’s how it is – for now, anyway.

Walk into the Orgy Dome with your boyfriend and then play independently. That’s absolutely acceptable. I’m 100% supportive of giving women ALL of the power in sex clubs. If I felt vulnerable to predators (even if the predators totaled only 2% of the whole) I would no longer participate. That’s a fact.

  • Also, the first time I went to the Orgy Dome I was there with a guy I’d met only hours before. He was psyched to have the opportunity to check it out. And he was a very decent man, no rapist, safe guy, but without me by his side to balance the energy he might well have seemed like a shark circling the tank.

  • I like to make a mud pit and create my own orgy in the under the stars right out in the open. Last year we had 7 people in the mud pit fucking , people watching were throwing water on us . A large crowd gathered blocking what was going on . We were drinking moonshine , had a mirror full of white and half pound of bud. It was fucking awesome.
