Ticket Update: Shipping, STEP Closing, OMG Sale, Scalpers

The Man burns in 37 days, and if you’re nervous about getting to see it happen, we hear ya! Here are some updates about tickets to help you get there.

14_theme_caravansaryAlready bought tickets and wondering where they are? Don’t panic. Tickets are going in the mail every day. We anticipate they’ll all be in the mail by the end of next week (August 1), making their way into your eager hands.

The Secure Ticket Exchange Program (STEP) closes tomorrow at 12:00 pm PDT, which is Friday, July 25. If you have extra tickets slated for will call delivery, this is your last chance to submit them for resale to other Burners. If you still need tickets and are waiting in the STEP queue, offer links received before tomorrow at noon will be good for three more days (or 72 hours after they are sent).

Since the max population of Black Rock City will be 68,000 (same as last year), we’ve been able to free up some additional tickets for the community. In addition to the tickets sold back to participants, we’ve already put 1,500 tickets into STEP, and this week we’re adding 1,000 more. That means lots of people who have been in the queue for a long time will get tickets this week. Please note, however, the queue is quite long so signing up for STEP at this point is not advised.

We’re also placing 2,000 additional tickets in the OMG Sale, for a total of 3,000.  Registration for the OMG sale begins on Thursday, July 31 at noon PDT and ends on Monday, August 4 at 12pm PDT. The OMG sale begins at noon 12pm on Wednesday, August 6. Registration details and other ticket info can be found at tickets.burningman.com.

And finally, ahhhh, the topic of scalpers. We’ve published a list of voided tickets. These tickets have been reported as stolen, lost in delivery, or as being sold for above face value, which violates the principles of our culture and the terms of purchase. These tickets and vehicle passes cannot be used for entry to Burning Man 2014. Check this list before you buy a ticket from a third party to protect yourself.

To learn about buying tickets more safely, please read the Fraud Prevention & Third Party Buyer Info section of our ticket support page. For more information you can also check out the ePlaya thread about scalpers and scammers.

Hope to see you in the dust, folks!

Possibly I could invite you to consider contacting Mutant Vehicle owners to see if they need tickets?

That special breed of Burners has already passed the muster of the Mutant Vehicle application process with the May 15th deadline, which is really just another cool form of invitation and acceptance to Caravansary from the DMV Hotties.

Yet so many of us didn’t get tickets in the first round.
I may get an early arrival passes through DMV, but not a ticket? HUH?

There is no questioning the Mutant Vehicle owner’s commitment, so would it not be an appropriate gesture to offer them the newly released tickets through the DMV mailing list as a sign of appreciation and acknowledgement?

My Mutant vehicle has cost me twice as much as our Esplanade Placed theme camps.

My work to keep the vehicle running and out servicing the transportation desires of the participants is a full time job all week.

Also consider the liability I carry for the mandatory acceptance of riders I do not know, and then, the behavior of my new rider on my vehicle can then get me arrested.

But here I sit, flagging scammers on Craigslist trying to get the ticket that will allow me to get in the gate so that I can work all day to present my Vehicle to to DMV Hotties for inspection with the letter I received from them back on May 29th.

And I love every minute of it.

    Just saying….

Your fulfillment has been a disaster this year! :-( I need to sell my tickets because I can’t make it. You SAID mid-June and it’s now late August. I JUST got my mailing notice. ASSUMING nothing goes wrong, I will barely have time to find a buyer or lose BIG BUCKS. Do you have only one monkey stuffing envelopes? Another year, another Burning Man ticket FAIL!

Just adding a +1 to the previous comment. You have all year to plan ticket fulfilment:
    1) Put ticket(s) in envelope.
    2) Post envelope.
It’s not hard. By mailing out this late, particularly with the OMG sale imminent, you are creating last-minute ticket chaos whereby the large number of people who will almost certainly have oversubscribed back in February for fear of not getting tickets, now have very little time to sell their surplus tickets. Similarly, those who might want to go have very little time to make plans should a ticket become available. What the hell were you thinking…

You folks are failing to see the opportunities every time BMord messes up ticket sales, which is every time. Get your heads past ‘Oh don’t resell tickets and make a profit’ – that is the KEY to all of this. It’s called radical self-reliance – the strong survive, and make a nice little profit. Get out of your anti-capitalism mindset.

Jannice, If you’re saying that it’s at all in the spirit of the event to sell tickets for a profit you’re absolutely wrong and are hurting the entire community. Ticket scarcity is not your opportunity to make money – period.

But it is. It actually is exactly that. The scarcity drives up the price… What is this ‘community’ you speak of?

The only people allowed to sell tickets for a profit are the BOrg, who sell tickets for $650. If they cannot sell them for $650, they dump them into step. They donate PART of their proceeds to the non profit, but the rest of the money disappears, and is not accounted for in their financials.

    Mjr Tom,

I’ll buy your tickets when you get them. We’ve got a couple of friends that are regular attendees that are missing tickets and our group is rallying to get them.

Let me know if you’d be interested in working out the logistics.

    Thanks,

Back in January, after being online all day, I was able to purchase 2 Pre-sale BMan tickets and a Vehicle pass for the Burn this year, but because Ticketfly screwed up the process, I had to do it in two orders. About a month ago, I received 1 ticket in the mail. I emailed Ticketfly, telling them that I was missing 1 ticket and a vehicle pass and they sent back a form email saying, “Don’t worry, be happy! Burning Man tickets are going out!” which didn’t address my problem at all. I emailed the BMan ticket support people and got an immediate form email saying that someone would get back to me within 48 hours, which was a week ago and I haven’t heard anything else from them. I called the BMan hotline, which they say they never check, and left a message. So I am still missing 1 ticket and my Vehicle pass. Ticketfly is a horrible fulfillment company: they screwed up the buying process and now they’ve fucked up the delivery process. I am very anxious that I will not get my missing ticket and pass at all. Help!!

…so all scalped tickets are voided. I looked at Ebay and there are over 50 tickets available (all way above face of course) and several car passes as well. Why is the voided ticket list so small? Just wondering…

I don’t understand for the life of me why you guys used ticketfly. I’m in LA and I havn’t gotten my tickets yet and I really think that it’s because of them. It’s really bumming me out because I can’t plan ahead of time. I’m hoping that I get them by the 1st. It just seems like every year there is some crazy ticket issue and I wish the org could just get this straight. I wish the best for the future

What about low income ticket mails. Aside from the initial email stating I was awarded a low income ticket, I haven’t heard anything. Anyone received any additional info? Is the confirmation email a urban legend?

  • Marie Vlasic says:

@Avasoul…reread your confirmation email all low income tickets are issued at will call. (I got one too!) You will be getting one more email that you will need to bring with you. Read everything thoroughly ;-)

  • How come there are people “in the queue for a long time” and still STEP was unable to sell the tickets I submitted 2 weeks ago?

Your fight with scalpers works just like war on piracy and war on terror: it mostly hits honest people, big time. I thought I would go to BM this year and had to change my plans. I have friends trying really hard to get tickets. The results of putting slow, non-transparent STEP between us are that I won’t get my money back, they might not go, and if they do get the ticket you are the ones suspected of scheming to make extra buck on tickets stuck in the queue.

My boyfriend got a ticket and keeps asking me when I will be getting mine…very fustrating. Reading these blogs gives me some hope of a ticket if the OMG sale doesn’t work out. If anyone as a real ticket to sell at face value I would be interested in buying it and pay for shipping. I don’t need a parking pass. I’ll keep checking this site if anyone would like to respond. Thanks!

I still have yet to receive my confirmation e-mail for my low income ticket that was promised to be sent later in the summer. (received my 1st e-mail on April 11th notifying me I was rewarded a low income ticket). With the burn fast approaching, it is now the 6th of August and I am getting a bit anxious. I e-mailed ticket support over 24 hours ago and still have yet to receive a response. Has anybody else received their low income confirmation e-mail? I’m curious. Thank you!

Ticketfly, could you not afford to hire enough monkeys to stuff tickets into envelopes?

Next year buy more bananas for your monkeys stuffing envelopes, they may work a little faster.

I signed up for tickets on STEP less than a week after tickets sold out. I never got an email about available tickets. The inefficiency of the STEP program drives face value tickets onto Craigslist, Stubhub and the like where the price inevitably goes up. As this event grows every year, so should the ticket fulfilment, sales and re-sales system.
