sacred like Los Vegas is sacred. Everyone on the planet has suffered loss, even kids. We all share birth, death, love and grief…you can not grieve without having been loved and been in love. Demanding that everyone takes on this sacred space according to a certain protocol is controlling and trivializes what points you are trying to make. This control of others feelings is certainly not the freedom of expression that burning man supposedly represents. Burning man is not black or white or right or wrong, nor the temple, nor art, nor expression, it all just is….viva Los Vegas!

What an amazing gift to all of us. The Temple moved me like nothing else at Burning Man (my first time, btw).

I often get very impatient with those at the Temple Burn who are not treating the event as sacred. Thank you for pointing out that these people just aren’t ready to accept or recognize the sacred element of the Temple Burn. Young souls, for sure. Thanks for writing so beautifully about my favorite and most important part of the event.

This is an entry I posted to Caveat Magister’s last post. Very appropriate for this thread too. The first sentence is Caveat’s . . .

When we burn the Temple, we are free of it. We do not carry it forward with us, like a relic that must be copied. . . . .

Hear hear!

Because the temples are ephemeral, they are even more effective as places to resolve loss than some centuries old stone structure.
