This discussion seems to be leading to a denunciation of technology. While it is easy to say no internet, no cell phones – yet we have live web broadcasts, facebooks are updated, emails are sent (including pictures).

The electronic communications go in both directions, yes the default world can get in, but we can also transmit out. The sharing of the event, especially where many of our friends may not be there this year, is as important as participating in the event.

It we are to end all non-emergency electronic communication (I forgot, this would include satellite phone/internet/tv & webcasts) then we shut the world out of the burn. If the event is to be shared and inclusive maybe we should allow the stuff.

Burners are constantly having to refute the notion that BM is a cult. I doesn’t help us for BMorg to identify certain pseudo-intellectuals within the community as, Thought Leaders. Not very intelligent, is it?

Well said. We must not defy the Thought Leaders. They have what’s best for us in mind, even if sometimes we can’t see that. We shall put aside our petty desires and leave it for the Thought Leaders to decide. I think the best way to do this is to talk about cool apps.

the thought leaders know what is best. communication on the playa is the most important thing. we need to be in constant communication if we are going to act as one – to be a single entity of communal thought. the thought leaders know this, and we must respect their wisdom. they are the thought leaders.

Maybe there should be one techno-free theme camp allowed with Star War robots as sentries to keep that default grid in check!

Keep the internet and cell phones in the default world. However, if the T-Mobile Girl in her new black leather outfit shows up, you can send her over to our camp. We will make sure she doesn’t get bored.

I fear the day that I can be connected to the default world while I’m at Burning Man. There’s nothing like being “off the grid” for just a few days a year. I really look forward to it.
