Theme Thoughts 2012

Larry Harvey announced the 2012 Theme at Artumnal on Nov 19. 2011.
BurningMan.com posted it on Jan. 22, 2012.
Welcome, “Fertility 2.0″

It may not be official, yet.

But while you are brainstorming how to create your 50 foot phallus, here’s some silly theme thoughts:

Recorded live during Hug Nation, Nov 22, 2012.

  • What about the theme, “The Unknown”? Isn’t that where we’re headed? The end of days, the great void, the cosmos and beyond? IT HASN’T BEEN DONE YET! It’ll get people to flesh out their own ideas of what lies ahead for all of us. Vote for “The Unknown 2012″!

  • “Fertility Reborn” (or something along those lines) would be so much better than “2.0”… the 2.0 part reminds me of AOL or something. Like we’re going to hear the dial up noises when we walk through the gate… at least the dubstep version of them.

  • Now that it has been officially announced, I would like to share my ecstatic endorsement for the “2.0” and also express my disappointment that only the theme carries the indication that it has been updated.

By any account Black Rock City itself is running at least version 3.3.1 Beta (stable), DPW and the Man finally went 4.0 last year, Opulent Temple is already on release 10.1.3 of it’s now OPEN SOURCE (congratulations guys!) platform, and many of the new theme-camps aren’t even coming out to the playa without at least having begun Alpha testing beyond their v1.0 releases. The Thunderdome, sadly, is the only prominent feature that hasn’t been updated during the last decade and is still running v1.1 with the post-goth patch.

In light of the above, I would like to request that unit C3P-LarryHarvey (human BMORG relations) make a statement regarding why it is only the theme that bears the updated moniker and try to get him to give us some indication of when the iBurn 5s debut!!!

  • How about socialism. Jesus! This whole ticket lottery is more like a non affluent family being able to afford some ice cream for desert on some special occasion where it’s rationed out oh so carefully to each family member. What percentage of the whole are actually scammers? What happened to the idea that if you want a ticket, you get on your computer the moment they go on sale and buy one. And can you really weed out the ones who intend to resell their ticket? I have a feeling that many scammers from last year ended up sitting their product because their price was too high. Hopefully many of them can’t afford to do that again this year. They were all over ebay and craig’s list even during the event. I’m sorry, there are just some things you cannot control. When I want to see some music event that I know will sell out, I’m waiting until that second they go on sale and I seem to do just fine. Beyond that, what are the costs to run this system where you are sitting on so many people’s c/c info that won’t even be used? Now there is a huge liability as well. Hackers seem to find their way into anything with financial info. I like to get my info in, get the transaction done and get out. As a ticket buyer, one is a tax payer of Black Rock City. So me, as a taxpayer of Black Rock City, don’t like my hard earned tax dollars going to experimental projects that can potentially become disastrous.

  • How about making the theme for 2012 “Lottery”
Streets could be named after gambling havens like Monte Carlo, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Wall Street, or perhaps after games of chance like poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, and stock market.
