Hi Jon,

I know what you mean. My first experience with the internet was with AOL. One of their offerings was a section for finding pen pals. I met a woman in Idaho, I was in NYC, and we corresponded for years. It was online instead of snail mail, but the process of carrying on that type of virtual friendship (no romance was involved) for a sustained period of time often felt more intimate that some familial relationships.
